Educational video your audience will actually understand.

For organizations that need to explain something well, not just look good on camera. We produce training and educational videos that are clear, credible, and built to last.

Production that keeps up with what you're trying to say.

Most educational video fails because the production can't keep pace with the material. The camera work is flat, the pacing drags, and the audience checks out before the point lands. We build educational and training video around the content first: how it needs to flow, what it needs to show, and who needs to walk away understanding it.

Cinema-grade production for serious subject matter

We shoot on the same cinema cameras and lenses we use for commercial work. Whether the subject is a federal science program or a financial service, it looks credible on screen.

You own the expertise. We own the execution.

Our job isn't to become subject matter experts. It's to take what you know and translate it into something your audience can follow. We work collaboratively through pre-production so the creative direction serves your content, not the other way around.

One video or an ongoing series, we're built for both.

A single polished video is a real deliverable. So is a recurring series that grows into a content library. We're set up to handle either, and if your needs expand, we can scale without starting from scratch.

Who we work with

Organizations with complex ideas to communicate

If your audience needs to understand something before they can use it, trust it, or act on it, you need video that teaches clearly, not just looks polished. The National Air and Space Museum tapped us to shoot their STEM in 30 program, a recurring science education series for students. We bring the same production standard to every organization that has something real to teach.

Creators and educators building content libraries

Educational video isn't always tied to a business outcome. Sometimes the work is the content itself. We've collaborated with Trace Elements Media on their Uno Dos of Trace science explainer series, handling editing and graphics for ongoing episodes. If you're building a body of work, we can be a consistent production partner across it.

Add-ons

Need more than the base deliverable? A few things clients commonly add on: social cut-downs (vertical and square formats optimized for Instagram, LinkedIn, or TikTok) are available at $500 for a set of three. Scripting and storyboarding are available for clients who want Purple Donut to develop the narrative structure and shot plan before the production day.

How it works

1

Pre-production: align before you shoot

Before anything goes on camera, we spend time with you on structure. What's the core message? Who's the audience? What does the video need to show that words can't? This session shapes the shot plan, the run-of-show for the production day, and any scripting or storyboarding if you've added that on. You come in on shoot day knowing exactly what we're making.

2

Production day: one focused day on set

Our 3-person crew handles everything on the day: directing, camera, lighting, and audio. You bring the subject matter expertise. We handle all the logistics so you can focus on what you know. Studio or on-location, we confirm the setup during pre-production so there are no surprises.

3

Post-production: edit, refine, deliver

We cut the footage, grade the color, add titles and lower thirds, and lay in licensed music. You review a rough cut first, give feedback, and we finalize from there. Most projects deliver in four to eight weeks from kickoff. If you've added social cut-downs, those come in the same delivery.

Frequently asked questions

If you need to communicate something complex to an audience that isn't already an expert, this is built for you. We've produced educational content for science programs, financial services, and ongoing explainer series, for both institutions and independent creators.

Scripting and storyboarding are available as add-ons if you want Purple Donut to develop the narrative structure. If you already have a script or a strong sense of the content, we can work from that. Either way, we'll spend time in pre-production making sure the structure serves the video before we shoot anything.

A single engagement covers one video: one production day, one final deliverable, two rounds of revisions. If you're building a series, we scope that separately based on the number of videos, shoot days, and whether subjects can be batched. Series work often comes in at a better per-video rate. Bring it up in your consultation and we'll walk you through the options.

Most projects deliver in four to eight weeks from kickoff to final delivery. That covers pre-production, the shoot day, editing, and two rounds of revisions. We'll give you a specific timeline estimate during the scoping conversation.

Not necessarily. We can work with talent you provide, whether that's a subject matter expert from your team or someone you've already identified. If you need help finding the right person for camera, we can help source talent as part of the project. We'll figure out the right approach during pre-production.
